Aerosight and their drone filming experts are one of the very first handful of CAA licensed companies in the UK and one of the very few that can actually build from scratch custom and bespoke drones. You can ask us anything!
Frequently Asked Questions
ARE AEROSIGHT LICENSED TO OPERATE COMMERCIALLY?
We hold permissions from the Civil Aviation Authority for drone aerial work and special exemptions to operate in built up areas as close as 20 metres and closer by request.. as well as full size PPL licenses and radiotelephony licenses.
IS AEROSIGHT INSURED?
We hold public liability insurance of £10,000000 and can also add special endorsements to our policy under special operating circumstances.
WHAT WEATHER CONDITIONS CAN’T YOU FLY IN?
Whilst we try and make the best of the conditions we have to work with… Heavy rain is a game stopper as the electronics on the drone and water do not mix well, although we occasionally have flown in light rain protecting the vital electronics 90% of the time water will be blown onto the lens of the camera. Strong winds could be an issue although as of yet we have always been able to work with them, but you can expect tighter framed shots to be unstable mainly due to buffeting from the wind this is not due to the camera stability but the overall movement of the drone.
WILL AEROSIGHT TRAVEL WORK OUTSIDE OF THE UK?
We can and do work outside of the UK, although permissions with local aviation authorities are required generally a month in advance so that all the paperwork can be filed, and also be aware that some countries are more relaxed and helpful than others.
CAN YOU FLY OVER WATER?
Yes we can fly over water and have been at sea for many days with our drones filming ships that we are aboard, or filming from other vessels.
CAN YOU FLY INDOORS?
Yes we can fly indoors and have done on various occasions in warehouses or smaller studios.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE REQUIRED TO OPERATE THE EQUIPMENT?
We arrive on site with a qualified and time served drone pilot and professional broadcast cameraman that has been trained to operate the super stable camera gimbal.
HOW LONG CAN YOU FLY FOR?
Depending on the type of drone we are using we can fly from up to around 10 minutes up to 20 minutes per battery pack as a rough estimate as weather conditions can lengthen or shorten these times. We always carry charged battery packs with us to location and a charging station with generator (if required) so that we are always ready for action.
ARE UAV’s BETTER THAN HELICOPTERS & TRACKING RAILS?
We can arrive at location and be ready for action generally within 10 minutes and can get where helicopters cannot and where tracks cannot be laid saving time, hassle and cost and be more diverse in what we can capture using an aerial filming drone fitted with 360 degree camera head.
HOW HIGH CAN YOU FLY?
Legally we can fly our drones up to 400ft (126metres) above ground level although we can apply in advance to go higher if needed
